Participants Needed for Therapeutic Massage Study

Collegeville Medical Center is seeking 25 people to participate in a 25-week massage study to evaluate therapeutic massage and how it benefits neck pain and other chronic pain-related issues.

“Therapeutic massage therapy has much to offer to patients,” says Jim Evans, practice manager. “This study will gather evidence-based data on massage’s effectiveness for a variety of injuries and pain problems.”

Previous studies have suggested that massage is safe and may have clinical benefits for treating chronic neck pain at least in the short term. Collegeville Medical is expanding this study to test massage’s effectiveness on headaches, back pain, poor circulation, neck or back stiffness, fatigue, sleep disorders, chronic pain, range of motion, depression and high blood pressure.

The study is offered to qualified individuals after an assessment from the medical team, who agree to undergo a supervised massage profile at the start and end of the program and complete a weekly questionnaire recording the results.

Location: 753 W. Main St., Ste. A, Collegeville. For more information and to participate, call 610-222-6123, email [email protected] or visit CollegevilleMedical.com.
