Letter from Publisher, November 2012
In 2004 my husband, Maurice, and I felt impelled to leave our well-networked corporate lives in New York City (hence my cell’s 646 area code) and relocate to Pennsylvania’s eastern suburbs. We wanted to return to the region where we both grew up and chose to settle in New Hope. After getting three children off to a good start, I added a part-time job at a raw foods company. During my year there I became passionate about living naturally and instilling such values in our growing family. I also became an avid supporter of principles of sustainability and caring for our home planet. Even though I drew up the beginnings of several hopeful business plans, nothing clicked; then one day it happened.
That day, both Maurice and I returned home holding the current issue of Natural Awakenings. He said, “Do you know they are looking for a new publisher?” I was thrilled. This was the first of my new career options for which he had expressed full support. In fact, it seemed that everyone that knew me saw it as a perfect fit. From that day to this, I have fully agreed.
Natural Awakenings enables me to help community businesses that are good for us and our planet better serve everyone interested in becoming healthier and happier. As our motto states, “Feel good. Live simply. Laugh often.” In pet language that’s, “Be good. Purr often. Wag more.” I can relate. So many people I meet on my daily rounds express joy and passion for their chosen purpose. I am grateful and glad to support you all.
No progress is possible without gratitude and in this season of Thanksgiving I am particularly grateful to add our Natural Awakenings family of readers, advertisers, distributors and contributors to my list of blessings. I cannot thank you all enough.
Many blessings to you and yours
- Audrey
