Silver Lake Nature Center Receives Grant
Silver Lake Nature Center (SLNC) has been awarded a generous grant from the Foundations Community Partnership (FCP) in order to create a handicapped-accessible trail to the Earthship, a self-contained, carbon-zero building made of recycled materials that will open in the spring of 2013.
The SLNC, a facility of the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation, creates opportunities for the natural habitats of Silver Lake to thrive. The 235-acre natural treasure in the heart of the southern portion of Bucks County comprises about 4.5 miles of nature trails routed through or near the various habitats. The grounds are maintained to enhance the diversity of plant and animal life. The nonprofit Friends of SLNC assists the county by advocating for the Center, staffing it, sponsoring its programs and representing the community’s interests.
Location: Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Rd., Bristol. For more information, call 215-785-1177, ext. 12, or visit Silver-LakeNatureCenter.org

Hypnocise: A New Concept in ExerciseMichael Legge, certified clinical hypnotherapist, and Nicolette Schwartzman, a licensed acupuncturist, have come together to develop a new exercise program, which they call hypnocise. The developers say that hypnocise can synchronize the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, offering benefits after just one 30-minute session. The pair are available to introduce the exercise relaxation program to groups that would like to know more.
One of the program’s methods uses the mind to move energy through visualization rather than external movement of the body; the method is rooted in ancient Chinese traditions aimed at reversing the aging process and increasing vitality without strenuous exercise, which is believed to deplete the body’s energy and leave it temporarily weak. This theory also suggests that the stress and pain that can be caused by exercise can deplete energy and that many people do not exercise because they are unconsciously trying to preserve that energy.
Another hypnocise method incorporates gentle movements from Western traditions that allow a dynamic balance between inner and outer exercises. These outer hypnocises help clear the body of metabolic waste products and provide cardiovascular stimulation.

Open House at River Valley Waldorf SchoolRiver Valley Waldorf School (RVWS) will host an open house at 10 a.m. on March 2, for families interested in learning about the school and the Waldorf approach. Founded in 1994, RVWS serves students from pre-school through 8th grade. RVWS is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools. Situated a half-mile from the Delaware River in Upper Black Eddy, the campus encompasses more than seven grassy and forested acres for students to explore.
Developed by Rudolf Steiner in 1919, Waldorf Education is based on a profound understanding of human development that addresses the needs of the growing child. For the Waldorf student, music, dance, theater, writing and literature are not simply subjects to be read about, ingested and tested; rather, they are to be experienced. Through these experiences, Waldorf students cultivate a lifelong love of learning as well as the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals certain of their paths and to be of service to the world. Waldorf teachers strive to transform education into an art that educates the whole child—the heart and the hands, as well as the head.
Cost: Free. Location: 1395 Bridgeton Hill Rd., Upper Black Eddy. For more information or to preregister (requested), call 610-982-5606 or visit RiverValleySchool.org
