Connecting Dads and Daughters
One of life’s greatest relationships is between a father and a daughter. However, not every father knows how to connect with his little girl.
Here are some ways to connect:
1. By acknowledging their strengths, talents and wonderful qualities, a father fosters a positive connection and enhances his daughter’s self- esteem. 2. At any age, a father can build open communication with his daughter by truly hearing her thoughts and feelings, even if they do not agree. 3. No one is perfect so when a mistake is made, apologizing is the start of healing a hurt. Dads can model humility and the ability to take responsibility for one’s actions by apologizing to her when necessary. 4. Fathers can create positive, lasting memories by being creative and exploring activities that they will enjoy with their daughters. Planning and making these activities part of a father-daughter routine shows the daughter how much she is valued and builds a solid bond.
While there are definite gender differences, fathers can demonstrate unconditional love by accepting their daughters for who they are and where they are at in their lives. Extending this support is a confirmation of a loving kindness that allows fathers to join daughters at every stage of life.
