The Soul Alchemy of Cleaning House

SparkJoySpace_LogoIt starts and ends with a simple exercise: hold it in your hands and ask, “Does this bring me joy?” If “yes”, it stays. If “no”, bye-bye.

This is the Spark Joy process, the powerful method that starts with tidying one’s surroundings and ends with transforming one’s life. The concept of Spark Joy is based on the KonMari Method by author Marie Kondo and outlined in her runaway bestseller, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. What began as a modest book has spawned an entire movement.

Those that embark upon the journey of “tidying up” find the results nothing short of life-altering. One such champion is Doylestown native and SparkJoy.Space creator Christina Rosenbruch, who discovered Kondo’s work in early 2015. She says the results were astonishing. Positive impacts rippled throughout her life; she felt awash in spaciousness; her decision-making acumen grew sharper, personal boundaries clearer. She felt creative, present and empowered to be at the helm of her life instead of at the whim of outside forces.

“The sensitivity you reawaken translates into all spheres of your life,” says Rosenbruch. “You house clean on so many planes.” She realized this was no mere closet organizing program, but an alchemical transmutation from material to spiritual.

In 2016, Rosenbruch enrolled in Kondo’s first training program to become a certified KonMari consultant. “As consultants, we are the guides. There is no right or wrong and no judgement,” she says.

Unlike other clearing practices, Spark Joy is, first and foremost, practical. “Physical decluttering leads to mental decluttering,” Rosenbruch states. Dissimilar to minimalism, Spark Joy is based on fostering connection to your objects as opposed to negating them.

Joyfully, one learns to reconnect with clarity of purpose so that “you know who you are and where you are going.”
