Area residents are invited to tour the Minimus Tiny House at Sustainable Saturdays from August 12 through October 28 at The Market at DelVal. From noon until 4 p.m., guests can see the build in progress, take a full tour of the home when completed and have an opportunity to speak with sustainability experts, project sponsors and other community members interested in a more sustainable way of living.

Designed to educate and inspire a more Earth-conscious community by reducing waste, using as few resources as possible and choosing locally sourced, non-toxic and reusable materials, Minimus serves as an educational demonstration for those seeking to integrate sustainability into their everyday living.

“I find myself disenchanted by the carbon footprint and personal energy output involved in building and maintaining a conventional home,” says project innovator Melissa Matarese. Since founding the eco-lifestyle enterprise Mesa Lifestyle in 2004, the Doylestown resident has made it her mission to provide sustainable, ethically driven and American-made products and services to empower her community. Minimus is her newest and largest project to date.

Construction is led by McDonough Construction, of Doylestown, along with the help of the Minimus building crew, comprised of a dozen skilled individuals passionate about the project. Other local businesses and individuals helping bring Minimus to life are Barb-Lin Carpet One, Indigenous Ingenuities, Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, Event Director Maureen Ferguson and Construction Consultant Dominic Lucidon.

“Minimus gives us a platform to grow together as a community and to learn and lead by example,” says Matarese. “I believe it is our responsibility as humans to do what we can to ensure adequate resources and a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.”

Event location: The Market at DelVal, 2100 Lower State Rd., Doylestown. For more information, call 267-614-3828, email Info@MinimusTinyHouse.com or visit MinimusTinyHouse.com.
