Business Spotlight: Remarle Provides Natural Skin Relief
by Alyssa Capel
Renee LeMasney, creator of Remarlé Natural Skin Care, believes that smooth, healthy skin can be a reality for everyone—naturally. What began as a search for relief for her own skin ailments became a business when she began selling her homemade skin products at local farmer’s markets in 2012. A sufferer of eczema and dry, sensitive skin, she knows better than anyone that the right products can do wonders for the skin. In her case, they were products she created and tested herself—free from harsh and harmful chemicals.“I started making products for myself personally before I even thought about starting a business with it,” LeMasney explains. “When I hit 40, my skin became very dry and insatiable and I developed a sensitivity to all moisturizers.” She believed that the unnecessary chemicals found in the products were the culprit and decided to cut them out entirely in favor of a natural, homemade solution. “After a year of experiments, the body and face scrub was born. People that were using the scrub loved it, so I created three more—a lip scrub, hand scrub and cuticle oil.”
LeMasney’s ideal customer is “someone who has sensitive skin issues and is looking for a natural solution.” For all creams and cures, she cautions, “Read the labels. Even though your doctor may have recommended it, you need to be your own educated advocate and make sure you understand what you are putting on your skin.”
Since she launched Remarlé two years ago, LeMasney has received the Seal of Acceptance from the National Eczema Association for her Shea Butter Creme and was voted Entrepreneur of the Year for 2014 by Bucks Happening. LeMasney now has plans to expand the reach of her product, hoping to make her creations available through retailers like Whole Foods.
LeMasney holds a master's certificate from Temple University in Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs and a master's certificate from Drexel University in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
